Clifford Orji Story – After thirteen years of imprisonment, Clifford Orji, the suspected cannibal who went completely mad in prison, has died. He died in his sleep at the age of 46 on Friday, August 17th 2012.
Most of you will remember Clifford Orji who was detained after he was arrested by the Police in February 1999 under the bridge at Toyota bus stop Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos due to suspected cannibal activities. Incriminating items that were found on him at the time of apprehension was a mobile phone,an N88k bank cheque,women undies,roasted and fresh human flesh and bones.
Three months ago, FRESH GIST ascertained that Clifford’s state of health had suffered serious deterioration. He was reported to be in a bad state and had gone totally mad; vomiting and defecating without restraint. He was also said to be naked most of the time.
All attempts to treat him at Psychiatric hospitals were unfruitful because he was rejected.
Clifford Orji was charged to an Ebute Mete Magistrate Court, but was never tried because he was mentally unfit.
